The Pakistan cricket team crashed to a 0-2 series larruping to Bangladesh at home. The struggling Pakistani bunch, currently going through one of its most tumultuous phases in recent memory as their last two years have been bridled with early World Cup and Asia Cup exits as well as home series defeats to England and Australia.

The latest set of defeats against Bangladesh seems to have deepened the crisis, prompting fans and cricket experts to question the team’s leadership and the overall direction of Pakistan cricket for the coming seasons.

Former Pakistan spinner and outspoken expert Danish Kaneria also joined the bandwagon as he recently compared the national team with a “mohalla team” (local team), all while launching a scathing attack on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Kaneria also questioned the leadership record of white-ball captain Babar Azam and Test skipper Shan Masood after Pakistan’s latest string of series defeats.

Danish Kaneria questions Babar Azam And PCB

During an interview with IANS, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria blamed PCB for the national team’s recent struggles across all formats. He said:

“The level of the Pakistan cricket team is so low that even a mohalla team is better than them, and all this is because of the PCB. They are to be blamed for such a below-par show from the national side. The luxuries of the captain's 'kursi' (chair) and the chairmanship at the PCB spoil minds.”

The outspoken ex-cricketer also questioned the leadership track record of Babar Azam and Shan Masood, and described that there is “no captain material” in the current ‘Men in Green’ team. Danish Kaneria additionally chastised Pakistan for crashing to a series whitewash against Bangladesh, despite enjoying the luxury of playing in home conditions. He added:

“I don't know why Babar Azam was given the leadership responsibility despite Sarfaraz Ahmed's good captaincy. Currently, there is no captain material in the Pakistan team. A captain is someone who takes the pressure on his shoulders and carries the team forward with his performance, which both Babar and Shan Masood have failed to do. Can't they have scored one century against Bangladesh in their home conditions?”

The Pakistan cricket team will soon be seen hosting England for a three-match Test series in October. The series constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.
