Jasprit Bumrah bagged 11 wickets against Bangladesh to highlight India’s emphatic 2-0 series win at home earlier this week. Bumrah’s twin blitz in Chennai and Kanpur over the course of the past two weeks also extended his annual tally to 38 wickets this year from just seven matches at an exceptional bowling average of 14.42.

Owing to his consistent run in Test cricket, the 30-year-old was adjudged as the new number one ranked bowler in Tests by the ICC. He replaced teammate Ravichandran Ashwin in the process, as the legendary Indian off-spinner slipped to number two on the rankings despite delivering a ‘Player of the Series’ performance against Bangladesh with 11 wickets.

A few hours after Jasprit Bumrah toppled Ashwin, he received a significant congratulatory message from the elite Indian all-rounder through a story post on Instagram.

‘You belong here’ Ashwin after Bumrah climbs to the top

Ravichandran Ashwin took to his Instagram account and shared a remarkable congratulatory message for Jasprit Bumrah after the Indian speedster dethroned him from the top of the ICC Test bowler’s rankings. Sharing a short caption on his story, Ashwin wrote:

“You belong here.”

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja retained his spot as the sixth best bowler on the ICC Test rankings.

Bumrah has now been rested by the Indian team management from the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The speedster, along with Ashwin, will be expected to play a major role in India’s impending Test series against New Zealand at home and against Australia ‘Down Under’. Each of the eight forthcoming Test fixtures also constitute a crucial part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle for Team India.
