Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has criticized MI skipper Hardik Pandya for his team's dismal show in IPL 2024, attributing their shortcomings to Pandya's leadership and decision-making.

Pathan specifically pointed out that Pandya, the 30-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder, made "too many mistakes," particularly evident in MI's recent loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday. With seven losses in ten games, MI's chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds seem bleak.

Pathan questions Hardik's tactics

Taking to his official X account, Pathan compared MI's performance from last season, noting that even without Jasprit Bumrah, they managed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023.

However, in the current season, despite Bumrah's contributions, MI failed to secure a top-four finish, which Pathan attributes solely to Pandya's leadership flaws.

Pathan believes that Pandya's management of the team on the field and his decision-making as captain were subpar, leading to MI's disappointing campaign.

Summing up the match, LSG won the toss and elected to field first. Mumbai Indians struggled right from the beginning, losing four wickets for 27 runs within the powerplay. Despite the best efforts from Nehal Wadhera, Ishan Kishan, and Tim David, the five-time IPL winners could only manage to reach a sub-par total of 144/7 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 145 runs, LSG lost wickets at regular intervals. But Marcus Stoinis steered LSG’s ship with an innings of 62 runs off 45 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, which proved to be crucial in guiding LSG to a four-wicket victory with four balls and four wickets to spare.
