With five wins out of nine matches, CSK currently occupies the third position on the IPL 2024 points table. Meanwhile, PBKS finds themselves in the eighth spot, securing three victories and suffering six defeats.

In their head-to-head encounters, Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings have crossed paths 29 times. CSK has held the upper hand with 16 victories, while Punjab Kings have emerged victorious 13 times. However, in their recent five matchups, PBKS has dominated with four wins, with CSK's last victory against them dating back to 2021.

When CSK met PBKS in IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that proved fruitful as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway laid a solid foundation with an 86-run opening partnership.

Conway showed his class, scoring an unbeaten 92 runs off 52 balls, well-supported by a quick cameo from Shivam Dube and two powerful hits from MS Dhoni right at the end, propelling Chennai to a formidable total of 200/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Despite a challenging target, Punjab's bowlers struggled, with Rahul Chahar being the standout performer with figures of 4-0-35-1.

In response, PBKS had a promising start with skipper Shikhar Dhawan's entertaining knock of 28 runs off 15 balls and Prabhsimran Singh's quickfire 42 off 24 balls, taking them to 81/1 at 8.2 overs. However, the quick dismissals of Prabhsimran and Atharva Taide put Punjab under pressure.

Nevertheless, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma, and Sikandar Raza stepped up towards the end, guiding Punjab to a remarkable victory at Chennai's stronghold.
