Mumbai Indians are facing a downward spiral in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Their hopes of making it to the playoffs suffered a significant blow following their defeat to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, April 30.

Currently, they sit at the ninth position on the points table with only 3 wins to their name. Additionally, their Net Run Rate (NRR) stands at a dismal -0.272.

Consistency has been a major issue for MI this season. Despite some initial struggles, they have managed to secure a few victories, but have failed to maintain a winning streak.

The five-time champions reached the playoffs last season and finished third overall. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya this year, they have yet to find their footing in the tournament. 

Uphill task for the five-time winners

While many may consider their playoff chances slim with just six points from ten games, there remains a glimmer of hope for them to turn things around and qualify for the playoffs.

Making it to the playoffs in 2024 seems like a daunting challenge after the loss Vs LSG, but mathematically, it remains a possibility.

To secure a playoff berth, they must win all four matches, accumulating a total of 14 points. However, even this might not guarantee them a spot in the latter stages of the tournament, given the competitiveness of other teams.

In addition to winning, MI must ensure they win convincingly, considering their negative NRR. Moreover, they will require favorable outcomes in other matches. Any loss at this stage could spell the end of their IPL 2024 journey.
