Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has given his unequivocal take on India’s legendary batting duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli amidst his participation in the ongoing ILT20 2025-26 season. Representing the Dubai Capitals franchise as one of its biggest overseas attractions, the dynamic batting all-rounder praised both Rohit and Kohli, and claimed that the ageing Indian veterans should reverse their Test and T20I retirements to play at least four more years of all-format international cricket.
Earlier this year, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both confirmed their retirements from Test cricket ahead of India’s tour of England. The two cricketers also simultaneously retired from T20Is for Team India back in June last year shortly after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win in the West Indies.
Gulbadin Naib wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play four more years
While speaking with the ANI amidst the ongoing ILT20 2025-26 season in the UAE, Afghanistan cricketer and Dubai Capitals star Gulbadin Naib praised India’s senior pros Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The 34-year-old even claimed that both Rohit and Kohli should represent Team India across all three formats for at least four more years.
Gulbadin Naib said:
“Both of them are very big players. They should play in all three formats for at least four years.”
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recently starred in India’s comprehensive 2-1 ODI series win over South Africa. Kohli aggregated over 300 runs in the three-match series with two tons and a match-winning fifty in the decider.
Their prolific run against South Africa compounded in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli achieving the top two slots on the latest ICC ODI rankings for men’s batters.
Already retired from T20Is and Tests and with a 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on the horizon, the two legendary Indian batters are reportedly eying to extend their ODI careers up until the showpiece event in South Africa.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli even starred in Team India’s emphatic 2025 ICC Champions Trophy crusade in the UAE earlier this year, with both cricketers bagging a ‘Player of the Match’ award in the final and the semifinal respectively.
