Indian cricket fans witnessed an epic crossover between men's and women's cricketers in Mullanpur ahead of India's second T20I against South Africa, with several Women's World Cup heroes present at the PCA Stadium on December 11. Among the female stars in attendance was the number 3 batter Harleen Deol, who was also comically spotted sharing a moment with the men's team wicketkeeper and finisher Jitesh Sharma ahead of the fixture.
Jitesh seeks Harleen's blessings ahead of the T20 World Cup
With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, India's preparations are in full swing as they are set to play 5 T20Is against South Africa and New Zealand each in the build-up. Having won the first game against the Proteas, the series moved to Punjab, where the association unveiled a stand each for the 2011 and 2025 World Cup heroes, Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur.
Around the time of the unveiling, Harleen, known for her fun-loving persona, took a moment to meet Jitesh, who was warming up before the game. While approaching the men's star, she was seen pointing towards her feet and asking the wicketkeeper to touch her feet. The latter did not hesitate and straightaway bowed down in front of Harleen and had a brief chat, where she seemed to be wishing him the best for the match.
Notably, as things stand, Jitesh is India's first-choice wicketkeeper, set to play the home T20 World Cup and Harleen's blessings/best wishes after the Indian women achieved the historic feat at home would motivate the men's team to replicate a similar campaign, after they missed out in the final of the last home event in 2023.
Hours later, India faced a thumping 51-run defeat at the hands of the Proteas, who asked the hosts to chase 214 and bowled them out for 162. Jitesh scored 27(17) in his short cameo, with the help of two fours and two sixes, while also inflicting a quick run out of Quinton de Kock, who was batting at 90(45) at the point.
