SRH cruised to a comfortable six-wicket win with 10 balls to spare in a tall chase of 206. Facing hosts Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow in match 61 of the IPL 2025 season, Abhishek Sharma exploded with a 59-run knock from just 20 balls as SRH raced to 72-1 at the end of the opening powerplay.

After the win, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori praised young Abhishek and claimed that this was their best batting effort as a unit this season so far.

Daniel Vettori praises Abhishek Sharma

While speaking during the post-match press conference, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori praised Abhishek Sharma for setting up the run-chase through his six-laden knock of 59 runs. He even described SRH’s batting performance against LSG in the match as his team’s best one this season so far. He said:

“I think that's very pleasing and today was probably our best batting performance as well. The way that Abhishek was able to set it up, everyone who came in just read the conditions perfectly, understood their role, and got us home comfortably. So, that's very satisfying.”

Daniel Vettori also talked about the importance of finding out new talents and giving them opportunities. With Travis Head being unwell, the former New Zealand all-rounder said it paved the way for Atharva Taide to make his SRH debut. He added:

“It's very important to the franchise to try and win games, to try and finish strongly, but most importantly is finding out about a few players and giving them opportunities. Obviously, Atharva Taide got a chance today with Travis Head being unwell and then continuing seeing some performance from Isha Malinga and Kamindu Mendes.”

Already eliminated from the season’s playoffs race, Pat Cummins-led SRH will now face RCB in their penultimate game this year. The match will be played on Friday, May 23 in Bengaluru.
