Jersey numbers are always special to players and the reason behind those numbers are more sacred. Similarly, Dewald Brevis aka 'Baby AB' also had his fair share of jersey number fascination where he shared the reason why he kept his jersey number as 12.
South African youngster Dewald Brevis, who joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh in IPL 2025, unlike typical selections based on luck or idols, Brevis picked the number to commemorate May 12, the date CSK contacted him for signing, marking a pivotal moment in his career.
Brevis Reveals Real Reason Behind Jersey No. 12
Brevis shared, “May 12 was the date when I received the call from CSK management informing me that they were interested in signing me.”
The 22-year-old, as stated previously and is often dubbed “Baby AB” for his AB de Villiers-esque aggressive style, has justified CSK’s faith with 126 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 163.63, including a match-winning 52.
CSK's Uncharacteristic Exit From IPL
Meanwhile, the defending champions faced an uncharacteristically rocky IPL 2025 campaign, struggling to find momentum early on. Notably, Chennai won only 3 games out of the 12 matches they have played and currently sits at the bottom of the table.
Though mid-tournament changes, including Brevis’ signing, injected fresh energy into the squad, the overall performance didn't add up.
While playoffs were a long shot for the team this year, Brevis’ fearless approach has offered glimpses of a brighter future for the yellow brigade as they could retain the youngster ahead of the coming years too.
