In the IPL 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, tensions boiled over as SRH all-rounder Abhishek Sharma was involved in a heated on-field altercation with LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi.

What Happened Between Abhishek Sharma & Rathi?

The incident occurred during the 8th over of the SRH innings. Abhishek, who was in blazing form with a 59 off just 20 deliveries, mistimed a shot that resulted in a comfortable catch for Shardul Thakur in the deep. As he walked off the field, Rathi performed his now-customary "book-signature" celebration, which appeared to irk the departing batter.

Replays revealed that Rathi gestured toward Abhishek Sharma following the dismissal, seemingly provoking a verbal exchange between the two players. Match officials were quick to step in, but the altercation drew significant attention.

The Match Referee imposed a fine of 25% of his match fee and handed also one demerit point the first he has received this season.

“This was his first Level 1 offence under Article 2.6 this season and hence, he has accumulated One Demerit Point," read a statement from IPL.

SRH vs LSG: Quick Recap

SRH put on a powerful batting display to chase down formidable 206-run target set by LSG, winning the match with 10 balls to spare. Put in to bat first, LSG rode on explosive half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh (65 off 38) and Aiden Markram (61 off 34) to post a competitive 205/7. Nicholas Pooran added late contributions with a quickfire 45 from 26 balls.

SRH responded aggressively in the chase, with Abhishek Sharma stealing the spotlight. The left-hander smashed a blistering 59 off just 20 balls. Contributions from the middle order ensured that the home side crossed the finish line with ease, finishing the match in 18.2 overs.
