Bangladesh clinched their first-ever Test series victory against Pakistan, securing a commanding six-wicket win in the decisive second match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

This victory, which handed Pakistan a humiliating whitewash on their home turf, marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, who had earlier won the opening Test by 10 wickets.

The series defeat has deepened Pakistan’s woes as they now join Bangladesh as the only two teams to have lost a Test series at home to each of the ten oldest full-member nations.

Shanto reflects on Bangladesh's historic win over Pakistan

Chasing a modest target of 185, Bangladesh's legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan sealed the victory, driving the team past the finish line in the 56th over with a well-timed boundary.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, visibly elated, expressed the significance of the victory.

“It means a lot for us; we can’t express it in words. Before we came here, our goal was to win the series, and everyone is really, really happy,” said Shanto.

The Bangladesh skipper lauded the exceptional performance of his fast bowlers.

“The pacers were very impressive. The way they worked hard in the nets and behind the scenes shows that they were determined to win for the team. I am very proud of them.”

He also praised the top-order batters who laid the foundation for the victory.

“The way Shadman and Zakir batted was simply brilliant. They took responsibilities and let’s hope they take it forward.”

Shanto eyes India tour with renewed confidence

Looking ahead to Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of India, Shanto stated the importance of maintaining this momentum, particularly highlighting the contributions of senior players. He added:

“The next series is very important, especially against India. The experienced players like Mushfiqur bhai and Shakib bhai have been just brilliant, and I they will work hard to do the same in the next series.”

Shanto concluded with a nod to the team’s collective effort, noting the contributions of the entire squad, including those who weren’t in the playing XI. He concluded:

“The credit goes to the entire team including the four players who were not part of our playing XI too. We will celebrate as a unit. The party is on the management (Laughs) as we have to travel back home!” he added with a laugh, hinting at the festivities awaiting them on their return home.

With this historic series win, Bangladesh has not only shattered records but also set the stage for a highly anticipated clash with India, beginning on September 19.

Riding on a wave of confidence, Bangladesh will look to carry forward their winning momentum and pose a formidable challenge to India on their home soil.
