Rishabh Pant, India’s most flamboyant wicket-keeper batsman in the past five years, will make his much-anticipated return in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to begin on March 22.
The 26-year-old, who has not played since the horrific car accident in December 2022, will captain DC again, though there is not much likelihood of him donning the big gloves behind the stumps.
The big question at hand is whether Pant will have another opportunity to wear the Indian jersey at the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will take place in the USA and the West Indies right after the IPL 2024 ends.
In a recent interview with PTI, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah provided key updates on Pant. According to Shah, Pant is expected to be declared fit very soon, and he stands a good chance of making his international comeback in the showpiece event, provided he keeps wickets behind the stumps and does well in the forthcoming competition.
"Pant is batting well, keeping well - we will declare him fit soon - if he can play the T20 WC for us, that will be a big thing, he is an asset - if he can keep, he can play the WC, let's see how he does in IPL" Jay Shah told PTI.
Pant will be in action on March 23 when DC will take on Punjab Kings at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.
