High hopes and a strong team on paper, and yet they fail to deliver when it matters. This has been a story for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since its inception. The women's team, led by Smriti Mandhana, had a similar story last year, and it seems the same is happening this year as well.

However, the spirited effort they put in on the field sometimes makes people feel for them. It happened on Sunday (March 10) when RCB suffered a heart-breaking one-run defeat against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The result was so devastating for the Red and Gold Brigade that none of them managed to control their emotions on and off the field. The victory was crucial for their playoff qualification, so it hit them really hard.

In an emotional dressing room pep-talk, head coach Luke Williams seemed to motivate his bunch of soldiers after the result. Williams highlighted the good bits from their game, which included Shreyanka Patil’s excellent four-fer and Richa Ghosh’s fighting half-century.

However, all of them appeared very down, including skipper Smriti Mandhana and star allrounder Ellyse Perry. There was almost a sense of crying in their eyes, breaking the hearts of many.

RCB will hope UP Warriorz’s defeat against Gujarat Giants when the two sides go head-to-head in Delhi later on Monday. If that happens, it would take a heavy defeat against Mumbai Indians to prevent them from making the playoffs.
