Mohammed Shami's absence from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah. The premier Indian pacer is currently on the road to recovery after undergoing ankle surgery, which has ruled him out of action for the foreseeable future.

Shami's absence from the international arena was keenly felt during the recent Test series against England, where his experience and skill were sorely missed. Additionally, fans will also miss his presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he continues his rehabilitation process post-surgery.

The last time Shami donned the Indian jersey was during the ODI World Cup, where his stellar performances earned him accolades as one of the standout performers of the tournament. However, with his focus now on recuperating fully from his injury, his return to the national team is expected to be during the home Test series against Bangladesh later this year.

Speaking to the press, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah provided updates on Shami's progress, stating that the surgery has been successfully completed, and the player is currently back in India. Shah also highlighted that Shami's return to competitive cricket is anticipated to coincide with the series against Bangladesh.

"Shami surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami's return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh. "

In addition to Shami, Shah also shed light on the injury status of another prominent Indian player, KL Rahul, who has begun his rehabilitation process after receiving an injection. Rahul's recovery progress is being monitored at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
