Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram has openly voiced his disapproval over Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi's recent performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.

Afridi's tactical decisions and execution in critical moments have come under intense scrutiny, especially following the Qalandars' devastating six-wicket loss to Quetta Gladiators on Sunday evening.

Akram had specifically targeted Afridi's decision-making in the batting order, questioning the wisdom behind his self-promotion above established power-hitters Sikandar Raza and David Weise in a crucial match against Karachi Kings.

The controversy intensified when, despite previous criticism, Afridi again chose to bat at position five against the Gladiators, where he scored a 34-ball 55. His celebration, marked by a defiant "shush," seemed to address Akram directly.

Yet, Akram remained unimpressed, pointing out that this individual success deprived Raza and Weise of valuable time at the crease, potentially costing the team crucial runs.

“Shaheen is a very experienced bowler. He is the captain of Pakistan team as well. He is playing international cricket for five years now. In 16 to 20 overs, his economy rate is 11. He has conceded 148 runs in 13 overs that he has bowled. As a bowler, he must be looking at this thing about how can he improve. It’s high time now that he must learn how to bowl the back of the hand slower ball. He’s got two wickets but he is not been able to do the job as a bowler,” concluded Wasim.

Wasim Akram's ire was not limited to Afridi's batting decisions. He also lambasted the captain's bowling strategy in the death overs, which has been a point of vulnerability for Lahore Qalandars.

With the focus firmly on him, Afridi's response to this controversy, both on and off the field, will be closely watched by fans and critics alike.
