Shahid Afridi backed the Pakistan cricket team to reach the final of the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The former Pakistan all-rounder believes the playing conditions in the West Indies and the USA will be ideal for the ‘Men in Green’.

The PCB selection committee has included five specialist fast bowlers in their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA. While Shaheen Afridi will spearhead Pakistan’s pace attack, the team also features the likes of Naseem Shah, Abbas Afridi, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir.

Afridi backs PAK to make final, cites ‘skilful’ pacers

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi believes the present team has the strongest bowling attack in the world, and singled out Abbas Afridi for his skilful slower deliveries. While speaking with the ICC on the eve of the T20 World Cup, he said:

“I think in any cricket team in the world, nobody has such a strong bowling line-up. All our four fast bowlers have a lot of skill and even the bowlers sitting on the bench like Abbas (Afridi)...has a lot of skill with a good slower ball. It's an incredible attack.”

Shahid Afridi is also of the opinion that the Pakistan cricket team will qualify for the finals as he believes the playing conditions in the West Indies and the USA will suit Babar Azam and co. He added:

“I feel Pakistan should make the final. The reason is that the conditions (in West Indies and USA) suit our team.”

The Pakistan cricket team is currently in England for a four-match T20I series. Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the ‘Men in Green’ lost the second T20I by 23 runs after the opening washout in Leeds.

Pakistan players will be expected to take flight for the USA shortly after their series against England on May 30. They will commence their T20 World Cup 2024 journey with a match against USA in Texas on June 6.
