McGurk And David Warner- (Source:@foxcricket/X.com)
Australia opener Jake Fraser McGurk, who took the world by storm after his impressive performance for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, has failed to convert that performance for the national team and is now under the scanner.
Notably, McGurk, who made his ODI and T20I debut in 2024, has played 10 matches across formats and amassed just 216 runs, which features just two fifty-plus scores. McGurk failed to impress the selectors in the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan and also failed in the first T20I.
Warner Warns McGurk
In the latest events, David Warner and Adam Gilchrist sat down to analyse McGurk's batting. Warner backed his replacement and urged him to continue his aggressive approach. Meanwhile, Gilchrist differed and advised JFM to play the first five overs carefully.
“He’s dynamite, he’s box office. I hope someone’s saying to him there’s no shame in maybe backing off a bit. You don’t have to do what everyone expects what you’re going to do. He probably rode the emotions a little bit,” remarked Gilchrist in the post match show.
Meanwhile, Warner also issued a warning to McGurk and remarked that he would be dropped if he continues to bat this way.
“If you’re not scoring runs, the solution to that is you’re going to get dropped. That method he thinks is going to work for him, but sometimes you might have to tinker with that a little bit if you’re not scoring runs. I don’t know the answer … but I hope he comes out tonight and proves a lot of people wrong," Warner said.
McGurk has two more T20Is to prove his mettle and impress the selectors. Further, he also need to shine as IPL 2025 auction will take place on November 24 in Jeddah.
