Riding on Shaheen Afridi's phenomenal opening spell, Pakistan had a dream start to the second One-Day International of the ongoing three-match series against Australia at Adelaide Oval. Shaheen Afridi oozed his class with the new ball, getting rid of Australia's explosive opener Jake Fraser-McGurk early in the innings.
The incident occurred during the third over of Australia's innings after Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shaheen Afridi utilised the new ball to perfection, exposing Fraser-McGurk's technique with a lethal delivery.
As Australia opened their innings, Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short came out with all guns blazing, attacking the visiting bowlers from the word go. Fraser-McGurk, in particular, looked sublime, punishing Naseem Shah with a flurry of boundaries. However, Shaheen put an end to his brief stay, trapping him plumb in front of the stumps.
From over the wicket, Shaheen Afridi bowled hit the ideal length, that is the fuller side of the good length, catching Fraser-McGurk off guard. As the batter got stuck in the crease, the ball swung in late, hitting him on his pads. As soon as the Pakistani players appealed for an LBW, the umpire raised his finger without any hesitation. Thus, Fraser-McGurk's rough patch continued in ODIs, with the batter leaving the middle for just 13 runs.
Steve Smith Joins Home Boy Matthew Short In The Middle
After Fraser-McGurk was bamboozled by Shaheen, veteran batter Steve Smith joined Matthew Short in the middle to steady the ship for Australia. At the time of writing, Australia were 32 for one, with Smith and Short batting on 0* and 19*, respectively.
