The IPL 2025 mega auction will have two different sets of marquee players, as informed to all the franchises by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The auction itself is scheduled to be organized in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25, i.e., around the time of Team India’s series-opening Perth Test match against Australia.

The franchises recently announced the entire list of their retentions on October 31, thus leaving 204 players to be picked at the auction out of the total registered names of 1,574 players.

IPL 2025 auction to have two sets of marquee players

As per a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI has informed all franchises that there will be two sets of marquee players at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Both marquee list reportedly consists of eight or nine players each.

Star Indian players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin as well as overseas attractions like Jos Buttler and Mitchell Starc are expected to make the Elite grade.

The report further stated that each franchise will likely acquire at least two big names from the pool, costing them an average of Rs.20 crore to Rs.25 crore. The Punjab Kings, with the highest available purse of Rs.110.5 crore, will be expected to make the best out of their huge bank deposit at the auction.

As many as 1,574 players have registered their names for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which includes 1,224 uncapped cricketers, 320 capped stars and 30 players from associate nations. A total of 46 players have already been retained by all ten franchises combined, as announced on October 31.
