Ace speedster Naseem Shah provided Pakistan with an early breakthrough as he dismissed Australia's swashbuckling opener Jake Fraser-McGurk with a dream delivery in the third ODI at Perth Stadium. Opening the bowling alongside Shaheen Afridi, Naseem drew the first blood for the visiting team, sending Fraser-McGurk back to the hut.
The incident occurred during the fourth over of Australia's innings after Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to field first. Pakistan's new ball bowling duo of Shaheen and Naseem utilised the seam-friendly conditions in Perth, troubling the Aussie openers with their pace and movement.
Their disciplined bowling effort paid rich dividends, as Fraser-McGurk eventually lost his patience and threw away his wicket with a poor shot. From over the wicket, Naseem bowled a classical out-swinger that shaped away from the right-hander.
However, as Fraser-McGurk played an expansive drive without using his feet, he only managed an outside edge, with Rizwan taking a simple catch behind the stumps. Thus, Fraser-McGurk sustained his lean patch in the series, recording another low score in ODIs.
Aaron Hardie Joins Matthew Short As Australia Eye Recovery In Perth
After the explosive opener's dismissal, promising all-rounder Aaron Hardie joined Matthew Short in the middle to steady the ship for the hosts. Although Pakistan have been quite brilliant with the new ball, Australia have managed to score at a brisk rate. At the time of writing, the hosts were 36 for one in six overs, with Hardie and Short batting on 12* and 10*, respectively.
