'Give Him...': Shahid Afridi's Blunt Message To PCB On Shaheen's Likely Sacking As PAK Captain

In a blunt response to the rumors of his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi likely getting sacked as Pakistan's T20 format captain, Shahid Afridi rebuked PCB for its hasty and unreasonable decisions amid leadership change.

PCB got a new chairman earlier this year in the face of Mohsin Naqvi, and if rumours are to be believed, Naqvi remains in favor of reinstating Babar Azam as the captain of Pakistan's senior cricket team across all formats.

Moreover, Pakistan's questionable performance in recent tours under Shaheen Afridi's leadership has raised concerns about the latter's competency.

Amid the drama, speculations of Afridi getting sacked as the T20 captain has gained momentum in Pakistan local media and former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi decided to jump into his son-in-law's defence.

While talking to local media, Shahid Afridi urged PCB to allow Shaheen Afridi some more time to prove himself. He also called out the problematic culture of constant changes within the team upon leadership transition happening every now and then in the cricket board.

"I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well," Afridi said.

Shahid Afridi reckoned PCB couldn't have it both ways and if they chose to appoint Shaheen as T20 captain, they must allow him significant time to produce results.

"The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket," he added.

Notably, Pakistan local media is reporting that Babar could be soon appointed as the skipper ahead of the T20 World Cup. Babar, who relinquished the leadership roles after the ODI World Cup exit, could reconsider his decision with the backing of the board.
