Sunrisers Hyderabad's latest addition, Travis Head set the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium ablaze with a whirlwind fifty in his debut game for the franchise against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

Replacing Marco Jansen in the lineup, the southpaw seized his chance with aplomb, demonstrating a masterclass in batting that left the MI bowlers chasing shadows.

Travis Head lights up IPL 2024 With fastest fifty for SRH

Head's innings took off from the get-go, with a boundary off Kwena Maphaka's delivery in the opening over that set the tone for what was to come.

He showed no intention of taking his foot off the pedal, especially against Maphaka in the third over, where he unleashed a torrent of runs with two sixes and as many fours in a display of sheer dominance. This onslaught put a significant dent in Mumbai Indians' bowling attack, leaving them scrambling for answers.

The fifth over saw Head turn his sights on Mumbai Indians' captain, Hardik Pandya, peppering the boundary with three successive fours.

Not content with just that, he continued his barrage against Gerald Coetzee, stitching together two more boundaries to notch up his fifty in just 18 balls - the fastest fifty by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman in the league's history.

Head's remarkable feat came on the fourth ball of the sixth over from Coetzee. Making room for himself, he expertly crunched the ball through wide mid-off.

At the time of writing this article, SRH is to 189/3. Travis Head departed for a quick-fire 62, before Abhishek Sharma broke his record and hammered a 16-ball fifty.
