Media reports surfaced regarding an alleged rift between Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and former captain Babar Azam during a team meeting in Asia Cup 2023.

According to the reports, tensions were high after Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka by a narrow margin during the competition.

Then Babar voiced his displeasure with some of the experienced campaigners’ performances, which prompted Shaheen to talk about the players who had done well. Things heated up after this exchange, leading Mohammad Rizwan to intervene to mediate the conflict.

Speaking to the Lahore Qalandars podcast in the middle of PSL 2024, Shaheen addressed the matter, illuminating the team's dynamics and highlighting their dedication to its country.

"We don't need to justify ourselves to anyone else. We know that when we are in a meeting, we speak for the team. Pakistan is in front of us. We both know we have to perform and raise Pakistan's name. So, what we have to give to our country, we will give ourselves, we won't let anyone else come in for that," Shaheen said, as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

Further, Shaheen also highlighted the good work that he and Babar have already done for the country, emphasising that if anything causes controversy, it is their responsibility to put an end to it all.

"Why do we play cricket? We play for Pakistan. So, just like things come into consideration within the family, the Pakistan team is also our family. We are the ones who have to set things right for it," he added.

Notably, Shaheen and Babar shared a beautiful moment during their recent PSL clash between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi. While Babar's Peshawar have qualified for the PSL playoffs, Shaheen's Lahore are at the bottom of the points table.
