In a shocking development, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has decided not to tender central control to seasoned wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock and past bowling sensation Anrich Nortje despite the duo being regular faces in the national team.

South Africa cricket body released the central contract players list for the impending 2024-25 cycle and a couple of omissions caught the cricket pundits by surprise.

With the T20 World Cup around the corner, Quinton de Kock suffered a massive setback as South Africa denied him a central contract. Notably, de Kock retired from the ODI format after the recent World Cup to transform into a T20 specialist. However, with the latest omission, his spot on the squad remains in jeopardy.

In another surprising snub, speedster Anrich Nortje was denied central contact. Nortje was last seen on the field in September 2023 and has been nursing a back injury ever since. While he declared himself unavailable for South Africa national duties, the pacer has joined Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2024.

Meanwhile, Gerald Coetzee and Nandre Burger were awarded their first yearly central contract. While Coetzee impressed in the ODI World Cup with 20 wickets, Burger made a special Test debut against India.

Additionally, top-order batter Toni de Zorzi, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Heinrich Klaasen made the final cut.

Dean Elgar, who retired from international cricket after the India series, was also omitted from the contract list alongside Sisanda Magala, Wayne Parnell, and Keegan Petersen
