While speaking with 7Cricket commentators at the start of Day 3 at the MCG, Jasprit Bumrah was asked how it felt bowling to Australia’s debutant and 19-year-old Sam Konstas on the first morning.

Bumrah, whose new ball threat was doused by Konstas with some audacious strokes, said that he felt he could have gotten the youngster out six or seven times within the first couple of overs of the match. However, he added that things did not go his way while Konstas’ enterprising and bold approach on debut paid off for the youngster.

With 25 wickets to his name, Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series from either side. When asked if he feels this phase is the best he has ever bowled in his career, the Indian speedster claimed that he “does not look at things that way”, but believes he has performed better in certain other scenarios and places.

Regarding Sam Konstas’ opening onslaught against Jasprit Bumrah, the Australian opener crashed the Indian seamer with four boundaries and two huge sixes, including one off a reverse scoop early in the innings.

Australia ended up hauling 474 runs in their first innings courtesy of half-centuries from Konsas, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne and a 34th Test ton from Steve Smith. Bumrah himself unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings by picking up four crucial wickets, including that of in-form Travis Head for a duck.
