Nitish Kumar Reddy has been a standout performer for Team India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Batting lower down the order, he has consistently delivered strong performances, earning praise from legendary cricketers. However, former chief selector MSK Prasad has raised concerns about Reddy’s role in the team, describing it as a source of confusion.

Prasad has openly criticised the team management for prioritising all-rounders like Nitish Kumar Reddy over specialist players.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy is creating confusion in Team India. He is not a complete batter and bowler and can’t win matches for the team with his skills. It would have been better to include specialist players,” Crictoday quoted Prasad.

Prasad also suggested that Shubman Gill should have been included in the Playing XI for the fourth Test. He questioned the decision to include Washington Sundar, stating that the management appeared overly focused on strengthening the batting lineup.

“I feel Shubman Gill should have been a part of the Playing XI in the fourth Test, but it seems the management was more concerned about the batting part, including Washington Sundar. There was no need for two spinners, and Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna would have been a better option,” he added.

Despite the criticism, Reddy showcased his batting prowess in the fourth Test, scoring a gritty half-century. After India resumed their innings at 164 for five, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja’s partnership initially frustrated the Australian bowlers. When both were dismissed in quick succession, Reddy stepped up, forming a crucial partnership with Washington Sundar to rescue India from a precarious position.

Reddy’s stylish batting included a brave boundary off Mitchell Starc to bring up his fifty. He celebrated the milestone by paying tribute to Telugu cinema superstar Allu Arjun, mimicking a signature move from the movie Pushpa.
