Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad slammed Indian team captain Rohit Sharma left, right, and centre over the latter’s ongoing struggles with captaincy and batting form. Prasad feels that India is facing an unprecedented situation under Rohit’s reign, as the captain is clueless on most days.
Rohit Sharma finds himself on the receiving end once again as he registered another failure in the Border-Gavaskar series. He was dismissed off just 3 runs by Pat Cummins in the fourth Test after the captain had already committed blunders in the field in the first innings.
Rohit Sharma faces scrutiny after failure at MCG!
Irked by India’s dismal situation in the MCG Test, former selector MSK Prasad lashed out at Rohit Sharma. According to Hindustan Times, he recalled the men in blue’s series sweep loss against New Zealand to deem it pathetic.
"We raised the topic about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Heading into this series, we had a three-match series against New Zealand. It was pathetic. Never happened in the history of Indian cricket that we lost back-to-back three games, and Rohit was totally sorted out. He had absolutely no runs in that series," Prasad said.
He further added that Rohit’s abysmal form as a batter has a direct impact on his captaincy tactics and the team’s overall morale. Prasad also pointed out how the skipper failed to rotate his bowlers aptly, resulting in zero wickets with the new ball on Day 2.
"I personally feel that it has got a direct impact. If the captain comes into some sort of form, that has a direct impact on the side. And he comes after a series of failures and that has clearly shown in the way he led the side."
"He has not been proactive on many occasions. If you see, in this Test match itself, he had 11 overs bowled by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, especially when Sam [Konstas] was going hammer and tongs. That has been the case with his captaincy. He has been struggling with both the captain and his captaincy," he added.
Rohit Sharma hits new low as captain
Rohit Sharma’s woes in SENA countries have touched a new low, as his latest failure in the fourth Test at the MCG brought his struggles in these conditions into sharp focus. Returning to his typical role as an opener, the skipper managed mere three runs before getting sent back by his counterpart Pat Cummins.
His batting average has declined to a shocking 15.55, the worst ever recorded by an Indian captain in the last 75 years. While Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni managed respectable averages under difficult circumstances, Rohit's disappointing numbers have thrown significant concerns over his adaptability and resilience in high-pressure situations.
