Ahead of the fifth Test in Dharamsala, Indian captain Rohit Sharma played down the impact of the pitch conditions and stated that his team’s purpose lies in winning the match.

India took an unassailable 3-1 lead after winning the fourth Test match against England in Ranchi by five wickets. With just a day left for the fifth and final Test to begin, the debate surrounding whether India likely to prepare a rank turner, once again, intensified.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma looked undeterred on how the pitch would behave and is rather focused on winning the match, irrespective of the conditions. Speaking to the presser ahead of the final Test, here’s what the Indian captain had to say:

“Whether its rank turner or any other pitch, intent is to win. Even on rank turners, advantages and disadvantages are for both teams,” Rohit said.

"It has been a series of comebacks for us"- Rohit Sharma

India began the series with a 28-run defeat against England as the hosts felt the absence of Virat Kohli in the team. However, the youngsters stepped up and produced a brilliant comeback. Yashasvi Jaiswal shone with the bat right through the series, while Shubman Gill made contributions when the team needed him the most.

"For me, the way we won in the series is more satisfying. It has been a series of comebacks for us."

The fifth and final Test is set to begin on 7th March 2024 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association International Stadium in Dharamsala.
