The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is set to commence on 22nd March at the M. Chidambaram Stadium (popularly known as the Chepauk Stadium) in Chennai. The first game of the brand-new season will be conducted between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and the fan favourite Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Previously, Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in the final match of IPL 2023 to lift their fifth IPL title trophy.

Ahead of the first match of IPL 2024, the CSK batsman and Tamil Nadu local boy Abhinav Mukund believes that the pitches in Chennai have changed over time and it might not give CSK the Home advantage in the first encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

While analyzing the Chennai Super Kings squad, Abhinav Mukund believes the team has a good combination of spinners who can dominate the pitches in Chennai, despite the failures of the team at home in the previous season of the tournament.

"The good thing for RCB is that the pitches in Chennai have changed. It's no longer a fortress for CSK. They lost to Punjab and KKR at home, even though they won the trophy. But, looking at the spin-friendly conditions and the spinners they have, CSK looks stronger on paper.”

While recalling the previous encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai, Abhinav Mukund discussed that the latter gave CSK a tough fight, but failed to cross the winning line as CSK won the match by 8 runs. He said,

"CSK versus RCB has been a great rivalry over the years. RCB came incredibly close to winning at Chepauk but couldn’t cross the line. A couple of these moments will be etched in fans’ hearts.”

Both CSK and RCB have had strong head-to-head encounters in the history of IPL, However, Chennai has dominated Bangalore with 20 wins in 30 encounters. The thrilling match encounters have always been fan favourites considering the presence of star players like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
