The eagerly awaited schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been released, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) set to commence the tournament in Chennai on March 22.

Since the announcement of the first fixture of the 2024 season, fans have been buzzing with excitement, a sentiment echoed by RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis.

As the 17th season of the IPL officially begins on March 22, cricket fans are gearing up for another exhilarating two months of the biggest T20 league. The BCCI has unveiled the schedule for the first half of the tournament, spanning from March 22 to April 7, which will feature a total of four doubleheaders.

Despite CSK's dominant record in the rivalry, matches between CSK and RCB have always been highly anticipated clashes in the tournament. The upcoming encounter between the two sides has already generated considerable buzz among pundits and former cricketing legends.

Faf du Plessis' recent Instagram story further highlights the excitement surrounding the opening match of IPL 2024. The top-order batter couldn't resist and expressed his excitement for the clash by sharing a picture with his former skipper Dhoni from their last meeting in the tournament.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Faf posted a story with the caption:

"What a First game this will be wow…"

The blockbuster fixture will showcase two cricketing superstars and two best mates, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, representing their respective teams. Dhoni's CSK will kick off their campaign at home against Du Plessis' RCB. While CSK will aim to secure a record-breaking sixth title, RCB will be determined to clinch their maiden title in the lucrative league.

Since joining RCB from CSK, Faf du Plessis has assumed a leadership role in the side after Kohli stepped down in 2022. In his debut season as captain, Faf guided RCB to the playoffs, although the team fell short of qualification in the 2023 season, finishing sixth on the points table.

The last time these two teams faced off in the opening game of an IPL season was in 2019 when Faf represented CSK, and Kohli led the Bangalore-based franchise. Now, four years later, Faf will confront his former team and captain, drawing from the lessons learned during his tenure with CSK.
