Under-fire Pakistan captain, Shan Masood has backed his decision to drop Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the playing XI in the second Test.

Despite shockingly losing the first Test in Rawalpindi, Pakistan decided to exclude their two experienced bowlers from the second Test, a decision which backfired on Shan Masood, as the skipper has endured heavy criticism.

Young bowlers need to be nurtured: Masood

While the former Pakistan cricketers lambasted Masood, the decision paid dividend immediately as the pace trio of Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali wreaked havoc and destroyed the Bangladesh top-order in the first innings.

However, the Tigers made a stellar recovery, courtesy a sublime fifty from Litton Das, and a brilliant 138 from keeper-batter, Litton Das.

Pakistan batters crumbled under pressure in their second innings, setting up a target of 185 for the Tigers to chase. Despite a couple of hiccups, Bangladesh chased down the target and clean swept the series, 2-0.

After the humiliating defeat, captain Masood backed his decision to not include two key bowlers in the playing XI. He spoke about the need to nurture young bowlers and find their potential.

"Like I said, it's never doom and gloom. You always keep trying, you always come back. You always learn from your mistakes and you try and give people a chance. And I think that we're heading in the right direction. We have been consistent with selection, we had Khurram, Muhammad Ali Daisy, and Mir Hamza play this test series," Masood said in the post-match presentation.

"We are trying to keep consistency with red ball performances as well. We've got Shaheen and Nasim back in the fold as well. We can't be harsh on them because they're playing all three formats. If Shaheen has played consistently for a year, you can't just throw them in every game. And you have to build up your stocks as well. So we've got a lot to look at," he added.

Pakistan crash out of WTC finale race

After a shocking 6-wicket loss, Pakistan have crashed out of the WTC finale race. Ahead of this game, they needed to win all their remaining matches, to have a mathematical chance of qualifying, but the hopes were dashed when they lost the second Test as well.

Their batters disappointed, with only Mohammad Rizwan and to some extend, Saud Shakeel showcasing will to fight back. Senior batters like Masood and Babar Azam had a series to forget.
