In a significant development, former Indian keeper-batter Ajay Ratra has replaced the outgoing Salil Ankola in the BCCI selection committee, which is led by former bowling all-rounder Ajit Agarkar. The news was confirmed by the BCCI through an official statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

On Tuesday, The BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee added Ratra to the selection committee, which also has Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, and Sridharan Sharath. He replaces Salil Ankola, who was a representative from the West Zone alongside Agarkar.

Who is Ajay Ratra?

Ajay Ratra is a former Indian cricketer, who played for the national team during the early 2000s. Known for his neat glove-work, Ratra was also an asset with the bat, as he could score handy runs down the order. He was a part of India's under-19 team that won the youth World Cup and eventually led them to a clinical home series triumph over England.

Ratra rose to prominence when India were desperately searching for a wicket-keeper after trying six different players for the role. He played six Tests and 12 ODIs for the Men in Blue, scoring 253 runs and recording 29 dismissals behind the stumps.

Although he showed a lot of promise with a gritty hundred against West Indies in St John's, Ratra's inconsistency collided with Parthiv Patel's rise, eventually leading to his ouster from the national setup. Before hanging up his boots, Ratra scored 4029 and 1381 runs in First-Class and List-A formats, respectively.
