Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) Legend and Hall of Famer AB de Villiers commended the enduring legacy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni, likening him to an unstoppable diesel engine.

Despite speculations swirling around Dhoni's retirement post the 2023 IPL season, fuelled by a significant knee injury, the veteran vowed to return for IPL 2024, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the franchise.

De Villiers emphasised the role of Dhoni's leadership, the calm guidance of coach Stephen Fleming, and the experience of players like Ravindra Jadeja in CSK's success. Together, they have cultivated a culture of excellence that defines the essence of the CSK franchise.

"It was untrue, ladies and gentlemen, as many rumours claimed that MS Dhoni was retiring last year. He would be back again. Will this be his final season? No one knows. He just seems to be this diesel engine that never ends. He keeps running. What an incredible player, what an incredible captain," expressed de Villiers on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Dhoni's resilience shines through as he underwent knee surgery post-IPL 2023 to ensure fitness for the upcoming season. At the age of 42, there are rumours that we might see Dhoni donning a new role as an opener in IPL 2024.

"I think it's because of them, MSD's leadership, a composed coach in Stephen Fleming, veteran players like Ravindra Jadeja, and other people who have helped to keep this amazing culture alive. It is never simple to defeat them. When you're playing well, you think, 'Yes, no problem, no one's going to stop us,' but when you're not, they always manage to put up a fight," he added.

CSK's bid for a record-breaking sixth IPL title is bolstered by their core group's presence and strategic signings in the auction.

While additions like Daryl Mitchell, Mustafizur Rahman, and Rachin Ravindra strengthen their lineup, the absence of opener Devon Conway due to injury is a setback for the team.

With the opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore scheduled for March 22 at the Chepauk Stadium, cricket fans eagerly looking forward to this battle.
