In a surprising turn of events, the cricket world was shocked by the update suggesting Virat Kohli might not feature in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Speculation arose due to concerns about Kohli's performance on slow wickets. The BCCI chairman of selectors is reportedly set to discuss Kohli's future role.

"Virat Kohli may have to make way for younger blood as 'slow wickets don't suit him", reported a news publication, triggering a meltdown in the internet cricket community.

The BCCI chairman of selectors is expected to talk to Kohli to "chalk out the road ahead" for the former India captain.

Kohli's absence from international matches since January fueled the speculation. However, he is gearing up for his return with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 opener against Chennai Super Kings.

Harbhajan Singh, former teammate of Kohli, expressed confidence in his comeback, foreseeing a triumphant return.

“The IPL is coming and then there is the World Cup. Virat Kohli's bat will make the same noise as before, probably louder. Of course, Virat has [unfinished business]. That World Cup trophy. In the past, he had won it as Cheeku instead of Virat. Interestingly, luck was on his side when he won the World Cup on his debut. However, Kohli continued to grow into a very significant player after that, participating in the World Cup in 2015, 2019, and now 2023 without winning a title. But the trophy still hasn't returned home, so he would be lamenting it’, Harbhajan remarked on his YouTube channel.

Despite Kohli's previous World Cup victory in 2011, the elusive ICC Trophy has haunted him throughout his illustrious career. Harbhajan emphasized Kohli's burning desire for another World Cup win, saying,

"A player like Virat Kohli not winning a World Cup? I can't digest it. It seems to me that his hunger will never go away, regardless of how many runs he scores or how many records he sets. And hoisting that glistening trophy is a big part of it. The ultimate goal of any player is to take home a World Cup trophy. Your records will always be with you. However, people recall trophies rather than records."

However, doubts loom over Kohli's T20 performance, especially at the Chepauk Stadium, as mentioned by Harbhajan a couple of days ago. India's last ICC trophy win dates back to 2013, adding pressure on selectors to make tough decisions.

BCCI secretary Jay confirmed Rohit Sharma's captaincy for the upcoming T20 World Cup, intensifying speculations about Kohli's exclusion. Yet, Harbhajan believes Kohli's performance in the IPL could sway selectors' decisions.

With just two months left until the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off in the West Indies and the USA, cricket fans await updates on Kohli's fate.
