Jeffrey Vandersay's exceptional performance led Sri Lanka to a convincing victory over India in the second ODI of their three-match series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 4, 2024. 

Vandersay torments Indian batters

Vandersay, who replaced the injured Wanindu Hasaranga, took six wickets for 33 runs in his ten overs, and secured career-best ODI figures and the 'Player of the Match' award.

Defending a total of 241, Vandersay's remarkable spell included the crucial dismissals of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli. He became the first spinner to take the first six wickets in an ODI inning and turning the game in Sri Lanka's favour.

His performance was instrumental in dismantling the Indian batting lineup, ensuring Sri Lanka's victory after the series opener ended in a tie.


Who is Jeffrey Vandersay?

Jeffrey Vandersay began his cricket journey in domestic leagues, and quickly made a name for himself through consistent performances. This success earned him a spot in Sri Lanka's national team. 

He made his international debut for Sri Lanka on June 30, 2015, in a T20I match against Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In 14 T20Is, he has taken seven wickets and scored 20 runs. 

His last T20I appearance was against India in Dharamsala on February 27, 2022. The 34-year-old cricketer made his ODI debut against New Zealand at Hagley Oval on December 28, 2015, and has since taken 33 wickets in 23 matches. 

Vandersay also played one Test for Sri Lanka against Australia in Galle in 2022, where he managed to pick up two wickets.
