Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed will likely be available for the upcoming Test against Pakistan. Although he last played a Test match in June 2023 and was not included in the playing XI due to difficulty bowling long spells, he has been a regular in limited-overs cricket.

The Bangladesh ace bowler has been dealing with a shoulder injury, which has kept him out of Test cricket. However, Bangladesh National Cricket Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update ahead of the Test series against Pakistan and stated that Taskin's injury hasn't aggravated and he is fit to play in the longest format of the game.

Will Taskin Ahmed play the Test series against Pakistan?

According to recent reports, BCB physio Baijdul Islam stated that Taskin Ahmed is ready to return to Test cricket if he manages his workload successfully.

He also said that Taskin's participation will greatly strengthen Bangladesh's fast-bowling attack for the upcoming tour against Pakistan.

“Taskin has played in the T20 format as of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup. The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is exactly the same now as it has not aggravated. A player can play by managing these [types of injuries]. If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive. Based on that, Taskin is definitely available. But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that, and if he feels better then he can definitely play in Tests,” Bayjedul was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

The pacer, who has been out of the Test arena for over a year due to a shoulder injury and has kept himself away from the format, has shown good form in recent performances during the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Ahead of the upcoming series against Pakistan, Bangladesh have begun their training sessions, with a special focus on Taskin's fitness.

Bangladesh will play the first Test match of the series on 21 August at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second Test match will be played on 30 August at the National Stadium in Karachi.
