Sri Lanka veteran Angelo Mathews has been named the stand-in captain for the three-match T20 series against West Indies after the board failed to sort out Dasun Shanaka's visa-related issues.

Earlier last week, a day after being appointed as the Sri Lanka T20 captain, Dasun Shanaka was forced to stay put in Sri Lanka while the whole team travelled to West Indies after the batsman failed to acquire a new transit visa to the United States of America.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that Dasun Shanaka, who was named in the ‘White Ball Squad’ to tour West Indies, did not travel along with the team due to an issue related to securing his Visa,” Sri Lanka Cricket had earlier said in a press release.

Shanaka, 29, lost his passport and hence was forced to face a visa-related issue. The Sri Lanka Cricket were said to have been working on the issue and the all-rounder would leave for the Caribbean as soon as the problem is resolved.
