Joe Root's gesture went viral [Source: @englandcricket/x.com]
In the middle of a high-stakes Test battle, former England skipper Joe Root proved once again why he is one of the classiest men in cricket, both with the bat and the heart. On Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test between England and India, Root took a moment away from the heat of the action to make a young fan's day.
Joe Root Gifts Jersey And Gloves To Young Blind Fan; Promises to Chase Any Target
The 12-year-old boy, named Ravi, has been blind since birth. But that hasn’t stopped him from being a passionate cricket supporter. Joe Root, without any fuss or media circus, walked up to Ravi and gifted him a signed England jersey, writing a heartfelt message:
"To Ravi, keep enjoying this sport and thank you for your support. Best wishes from me."
If that wasn’t enough, Root also handed him his autographed gloves and made the moment even more special.
But the cherry on top was Ravi’s line of questioning. Not just a fan, the boy clearly knows his cricket. He asked Root straight up if England felt confident chasing a 400+ target. Root, as cool as ever, smiled and said:
"I don’t want to sound arrogant, but we are very confident. I think we can chase anything. We will certainly be giving it a go. We have got a number of players that are very talented, in great form, we have got a lot of confidence so we will take whatever is on."
Ravi then cheekily asked, “What if it’s over 600 on the final day?”
Root, without blinking, replied,
"It’s only just over six an over… so we can give it a good go."
Root’s Form With The Bat Still Lukewarm
While Root is winning hearts off the field, he is yet to set the series pitch on fire. With just 103 runs in 3 innings so far, the usually dependable batter hasn’t hit top gear. But if anyone knows how to rise on the big day, it’s Joe Root.
IND vs ENG Scorecard
At Tea on Day 4, India are 304/4 with Shubman Gill reaching a ton and Jadeja cruising on 25. The lead is already 484 runs and growing. With England set to bat in the final innings, all eyes are now on the declaration and England's approach.
Will England walk the talk or buckle under pressure? Time will tell. But one thing i for sure, Joe Root just won the internet, regardless of the result.
