Chennai Super Kings have booked a spot in the finals of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 following their 15-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier at MA. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk.

One of the primary reasons behind the Chennai Super Kings' remarkable success in IPL 2023, particularly in the bowling department, has been the emergence of Sri Lanka's young prodigy, Matheesha Pathirana.

Widely touted as the next Lasith Malinga, Pathirana's has picked up 17 wickets in 11 CSK appearances at an economy rate of 7.72 and an average of 19.24 so far in the tournament.

In an effort to make Pathirana's experience with CSK truly special, and in preparation for the final on Sunday, Dhoni organized a heartfelt gathering with Pathirana's family in Chennai.

Later, Pathirana’s sister took to her Instagram account, sharing delightful pictures, accompanied by a heartfelt post, where she poured her emotions and expressed how this surreal moment went beyond anything she had ever imagined.

Vishuka's excitement and joy knew no bounds as she went on to reveal the words of 'Thala Dhoni' during their meeting, which reassured the entire family that their beloved Pathirana is in the most secure hands.

Here’s what Vishuka Pathirana wrote:

“Now we are sure that malli is in safe hands when thala said "You have nothing to worry about Matheesha,he's always with me. These moments were even beyond what I had ever dreamt of."

Not long ago, MS Dhoni advised Pathirana to steer clear of Test cricket and focus solely on the white-ball format for a bright future. Dhoni's advice was influenced by the potential injury concerns associated with the youngster’s unique sling-shot action.

"What's important is to keep an eye on how much cricket he is playing. I feel he should not play red-ball cricket, not even get close to it, even play only ICC tournaments with ODIs and keep the rest as less as possible, because he's not someone who'll change a lot.”

Pathirana possesses an action strikingly reminiscent of the legendary Lasith Malinga. In fact, the CSK bowler consistently clocks speeds of 150kph, posing a significant threat to opposing batters. Several experts have gone as far as stating that Pathirana presents an even greater challenge as a pacer than Malinga used to.
