Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach, Sanjay Bangar, officially confirmed the occurrence of a slight knee niggle suffered by Virat Kohli, during their match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday. However, Bangar confidently assured fans and supporters that there is no cause for concern when it comes to Kohli's overall fitness as it was a slight niggle.

The fate of RCB took a disappointing turn as they succumbed to a disheartening defeat at the hands of GT, enduring a six-wicket loss in what turned out to be their final league game of the exhilarating Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The deflating consequence eliminated Bangalore from the intense playoffs race and paved the way for Mumbai Indians’ qualification.

With the World Test Championship (WTC) final approaching, the anxiety levels soared among Indian cricket enthusiasts when Kohli, while executing a remarkable catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar (who had contributed an impressive 53 runs), was seen leaving the field due to a jarring of his knee.

In an ensuing post-match press conference, Bangar strategically downplayed any concerns related to Kohli's injury, seeking to assuage the fears of ardent supporters. He acknowledged that Kohli experienced a minor knee niggle but expressed his confidence that the issue is not of significant concern.

"Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don't think there is anything serious,” said Bangar.

The former cricketer further emphasized the remarkable achievement of the RCB’s star batter scoring consecutive centuries within a short span of four days, highlighting his determination to contribute not only with the bat but also in the field, involving a considerable amount of running.

“Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of four days is a special achievement. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. He did a lot of running around,” added the 50-year-old.

Despite Kohli's extensive on-field involvement, including a recent 40-over match and 35 overs on Sunday, Bangar remained convinced that the niggle was going to cause discomfort at some point, but it is unlikely to be a serious matter.
