In a significant development, there are reports that Rishabh Pant is most likely to be announced as the new vice-captain of India's Test team. According to a report from OdishaTv, Shubman Gill is set to be the next India Test captain, while Pant would be his deputy.

It is worth noting that recently Rohit Sharma announced his Test retirement, which has resulted in an hunt for new captain. The report mentioned that Gill is set to be introduced as the captain via a press-conference on May 23.

Now Pant is all set to get the vice-captain's role as the BCCI is adamant of not giving that role to Jasprit Bumrah, who is consistently dealing with injuries. "If Bumrah isn't the captain, then there is no point offering him vice-captaincy," a BCCI source told PTI.

Talking about Pant, the southpaw isn't doing well at the IPL and has faced the criticism for his string of poor show with the bat. However, the southpaw has done well in Test cricket and continues to be one of the key figures for Team India in the traditional format of the game.

It is worth noting that, Rishabh Pant, on his return to Test cricket after 2 years, scored a century and took the limelight. Further, he scored 161 runs in four innings, while he also amassed 261 runs in six innings, averaging 43.50.
