England’s County Championship has taken a subtle dig at legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli amidst the latter’s retirement rumors from Test cricket. On Saturday, May 10, several reports indicated that Kohli is discussing the possibility of Test retirement with the BCCI ahead of Team India’s five-match tour of England in June.
In light of the rumors, the County Championship shared a compilation of several batters getting cleaned up with impeccable deliveries on tough English surfaces. Taking a dig at Kohli over what would have lied ahead of him in India’s upcoming series, the County Championship shared the compilation video on their social media accounts.
County Championship trolls Virat Kohli
Shortly after reports emerged that Virat Kohli has discussed possibility of his Test retirement with the BCCI just before the series in England, the County Championship released a short footage of batters getting cleaned up with absolute “Jaffas” on challenging English surfaces.
In the caption, the County Championship wrote, “We don’t blame you Virat”, thus, jokingly asserting that the legendary Indian batter is considering retirement to avoid further batting challenges in England next month.
Compatible to the “joke post” of County Championship, Virat Kohli holds his worst batting average (more than three Tests) in English conditions. In 33 innings, the legendary Indian batter has managed to accrue just 1,096 runs at an average of 33.21.
Moreover, even during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series in Australia earlier this year, the cricketer managed to tally just 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75.
At the moment, Virat Kohli’s Test haul stands at 9,230 runs from 123 matches with 30 tons and 31 half-centuries.
