'Jofra Archer Can Take Inspiration From Pat Cummins': ECB's Robert Key

England's Jofra Archer has been troubled with injuries for the past few years and has made his cricketing career a start-stop affair. On a comeback trail, Archer, who made his return to the international arena in Bangladesh this year, has been ruled out of England's upcoming summer following a relapse of his elbow stress fracture.

Archer will miss one-off Test against Ireland, and the all-important 'The Ashes 2023'. The injury forced Archer to cut down his stint with Mumbai Indians after featuring in just five Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.


Former England opener Robert Key, who works with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as men's director of cricket, said that Archer should look up for inspiration from Australia's Test skipper Pat Cummins.

Cummins made his Test debut in 2011 and waited for six years to make a comeback in 2017, following multiple injury setbacks.

As quoted by TSMH, Key said ECB will provide Archer the best of treatment and hopes to see the pacer back in England colours.

"People like Pat Cummins missed a lot of cricket at the early stage of his career. Now Australia have seen the benefit, he’s been able to put season after season together. Jofra deserves a bit of luck.

The poor lad is pretty distraught with what’s happened, you just hope that luck turns for him at some point. It’s going to be a fairly taxing road to go down to get this fixed, but I’m sure we’ll see him back at some point,"

The 28-year-old will go back to Barbados and undergo rehabilitation. Archer has so far played 13 Tests, with his last appearance coming in February 2021.
