'On May 30, 1998, he came to me with his brother and father. We could see that he was different from others, a very active and very naughty guy...'

The very active and naughty young boy from Delhi has paved a path for himself that is full of achievements for generations to come. But it wouldn't have been possible if that 10 year old didn't receive a coach like, Rajkumar Sharma to groom him in the early stages of his journey as a cricketer. The journey that has made him the hard-hitting, tenacious, and a diligent run-machine, he is today.

Rajkumar Sharma in his own time played cricket as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. He played for the Delhi team in First Class Cricket from 1986 to 1991, as well as in some List A matches.

Kohli and his god-gifted ability to play fearlessly has been a consistent part of him ever since his young coaching days. During an exclusive piece for RCB Bold Diaries, Rajkumar Sharma talked about the ever-so bold King Kohli and said:

"Junior teammates could never get Virat out so he came to me and said he wanted to play in the senior group. Despite my hesitation, he kept insisting and then I decided to give him a chance. I was also irritated but he played well. Though he once got hit on the chest, he told his mother I'll play with seniors only come what may. He's special and has god-gifted talent. He has been playing bold from a very young age."

He also has a huge role to play in the vast successes of Kohli both as a player as well as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team. While recalling a happy moment that he would cherish forever, Coach Sharma revealed:

"When Virat Kohli became the captain in all formats, he called me & said 'Sir, I used to come on cycle keeping the kit bag on the front, then we wouldn't have thought I would reach here' - That was a very emotional moment."

The 2016 Dronacharya awardee is currently the bowling coach of the senior men’s team of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). He is also the founder of West Delhi Cricket Academy that is focused and determined to produce players like Virat Kohli.
