Papua New Guinea wicketkeeper-batter Kiplin Doriga was charged with robbery after an incident in the early hours of Monday, August 25, in St Heliers, the capital of Jersey. Doriga was part of the PNG squad competing in the second round of the CWC Challenge League on the island, a Crown Dependency of the UK.

The 29-year-old cricketer has represented Papua New Guinea in 97 matches across formats. He was also part of the national side in the 2021 and 2024 T20 World Cups, making him one of the more experienced members of the team.

Court appearance and charges against Kiplin Doriga

Doriga appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. It is understood from Cricbuzz reports that he pled guilty to the charges. Relief Magistrate Rebecca Morley-Kirk ruled that the case was too serious for the Magistrate’s Court and referred it to the Royal Court.

The court declined Doriga’s bail application, and he has been remanded in custody on the island until his next appearance. The PNG cricketer is scheduled to appear before the Royal Court on November 28.

Notably, there has been no further details of how Doriga was caught or why he was accused of the theft. The developments are under proceedings. Meanwhile, Kiplin Doriga has shown mixed form in recent outings.

Doriga looked in decent touch recently

In the ongoing CWC Challenge League, he scored 12 runs with one catch against Kuwait on August 24, 2025, at St Martin, and earlier struck a vital 68 runs with a catch against Denmark on August 22 at St Saviour.

However, he was dismissed for a duck in the T20I against Guernsey on August 14 in Castel, though he contributed with a catch. In October 2024, he scored 28 runs against Kenya in Nairobi and took two catches in the previous match against Kuwait.
