The Indian domestic season kick-started on Thursday, with the Zonal sides taking on each other in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal. However, in a shocking turn of events, Indian fans were unable to watch the matches live, as none of the broadcasting platforms telecast them.
Why Is Duleep Trophy Not Being Telecast Live In India?
Several media platforms reported that the Duleep Trophy games would be streamed live through multiple platforms, including the Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. However, to the fans' surprise, neither of the quarterfinal matches was broadcast, which left them fuming over the BCCI.
Meanwhile, a BCCI source revealed that the governing body judiciously manages the coverage of Indian matches, as the official broadcaster has a fixed number of telecast days allocated for them. As the source stated, the Duleep Trophy final will be telecast live, unlike the ongoing quarterfinals.
"The BCCI has a contract with it's official Broadcaster for a fixed number of Indian Cricket Telecast Days. These have to be managed carefully - only the Duleep Trophy final will be telecast live but this needs to improve from a fans Perspective," the source was quoted as saying by Gaurav Gupta from TOI.
Several reputed Indian players are in action in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinals. Despite India's Test captain Shubman Gill missing the encounter, the North Zone has a number of match-winners- Arshdeep Singh, Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami, Riyan Parag and Mukesh Kumar are representing the East Zone in the high-voltage affair.
Apart from Gill, Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel, and Akash Deep are some prominent names who have missed out on the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal. In Gill's absence, Ankit Kumar is leading North Zone, with Rajat Patidar replacing Dhruv Jurel as the Central Zone captain.
