Sanju Samson Trade Rumours: RR Drop Major Captaincy Hint Amidst CSK, KKR Interest

The Sanju Samson trade saga has dragged on for months, and every week, a new rumour starts when it comes to his trade deal to either the Chennai Super Kings or the Kolkata Knight Riders. Last month, it was reported that Super Kings are interested in acquiring Samson before the start of the next season, and a deal could be possible with RR.

A couple of weeks later, Samson reportedly urged the franchise to either release him before the auction or trade him to other IPL teams. However, it seems the Royals aren’t giving up, and are aiming to keep Samson with them at any cost.

RR drops major hint on Samson amidst CSK interest

In a video that has now gone viral, the Rajasthan Royals posted a footage where Samson was practising in the Royals’ jersey, and the post added graphics that included Samson’s three back-to-back fifty-plus scores in the Kerala Cricket League.

However, what caught the eyes of the fans was the caption posted by the RR admin on the post. It was written - Sanju Samson (C). This gave a subtle hint that RR are either hoping to keep the Kerala batter as their captain for the next IPL season, or a verbal agreement has been reached between the two parties for next IPL edition.

Why does Samson want to leave RR?

Apparently, things turned ugly between the player and the franchise last season. Samson has been leading the Royals team in the IPL for the last few years, but in the 2025 edition, he reportedly felt that his decisions as a captain were not given much importance.

Moreover, he prefers opening the batting in the T20 format. While the captain was sidelined in IPL 2025 due to an injury, the franchise tested out a new opening pair in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and it did wonders.

Hence, when the talented Samson was fit, he expected to open the innings, but the management pushed him down to number 3 which became a focal point of his desire to leave.
