India's Asia Cup vice-captain Shubman Gill is expected to reach Bengaluru today and begin his training at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) as part of his preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE, as per a report from TOI.

Notably, Gill had to miss the opening round of the Duleep Trophy due to a viral infection but has now recovered fully. Before heading to Bengaluru, the 25-year-old resumed light training in Mohali, where he completed a few gym sessions and had a batting hit on Thursday.

Bengaluru Shift Because Of North India Rain

With consistent rains affecting North India, practice facilities near Shubman Gill’s home were not ideal for intense sessions. This could have pushed the decision for an early move to Bengaluru, where the CoE is currently hosting several top Indian players either competing in the Duleep Trophy or undergoing routine assessments.

It is understood that Gill will likely fly directly to Dubai from Bengaluru, joining other members of India’s Asia Cup squad who are already stationed there. The Indian team will officially assemble in Dubai on September 4, with training scheduled to begin from September 5. India will open their campaign on September 10.

Gill's T20I Form Might Deliver In Asia Cup

Speaking of Gill's Asia Cup prospects, Shubman Gill has featured in 21 T20Is so far, scoring 578 runs at an average of 30.42 and an impressive strike rate of 139.27. Still early in his international T20 journey, Gill has already shown signs of becoming a reliable top-order batter for India and might feature as one in the upcoming tournament.

Meanwhile, according to another report, India will operate out of Dubai throughout the Asia Cup. The team is expected to travel to match venues in the UAE on a same-day return basis, ensuring minimum disruption in their preparation.
