IPL 2023: Here are the Front-Runners for KKR Skipper's Position

With Shreyas Iyer almost ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a back injury, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face race against time to find a new skipper for the upcoming season.
As per reports, it has been learnt that Shardul Thakur and West Indies' Sunil Narine are the front-runners to become the new KKR skipper. Narine, a veteran for the franchise has the experience of leading in franchise cricket, and that could work in his favour.
As per a TOI source, "KKR are set to announce their skipper in grand fashion. KKR's co-owner, Shahrukh Khan will personally attend the event to reveal the name of the skipper.
As per the source, Shardul, who was traded to KKR ahead of the IPL mini-auction in December, has an edge over Narine, since the all-rounder can communicate better with the Indian core in the KKR team.
Moreover, Narine has a poor captaincy record that could work against him. He led the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 competition, and the team could only manage to register a solitary win, finishing last at the points table.
The Indian Premier League 2023 seasons starts from March 31. The first match of the tournament takes place between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, KKR play their opening match against Punjab Kings on April 1.
