The last few months has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for Indian batter KL Rahul in international cricket. Marred by inconsistency since his comeback, Rahul has been constantly scrutinised of late due to a string of low scores.

However, the Karnataka batter regained his confidence by playing a match-winning knock of 75* runs in the first ODI against Australia on Friday. On a tricky surface, Rahul came out to bat when India were reeling at 16 for three, while chasing 189.

The keeper-batter faced the Australian bowlers with the utmost bravery and formed an unbeaten 108-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to help India gun down the target with 61 balls to spare.

After bailing his side out of trouble, the 30-year-old received accolades from all corners of the world, including his staunch critic, Venkatesh Prasad.

Prasad, who made it into the headlines by slamming Rahul for his poor run during the Test series, acknowledged his valiant efforts in Mumbai ODI, hailing him for his composure in his tweet.

Besides winning India the game, the knock was much-needed for Rahul, who seemed completely out of touch during the Test series.

His prolonged lean patch even led to his ouster from the red-ball team, with Shubman Gill partnering Rohit Sharma at the top in the final two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

So, it will be interesting to see if Rahul gets motivated from this knock and silences his critics in upcoming games.
